One app. The downloader is inside it.

AutoSong carries its own copy of yt-dlp and its own MP3 encoder, so there is nothing else to install: no Termux, no second app, no command to paste. Install the APK, open it, press start.

Before you install

  1. Open the APK. Android will say the file may be unsafe, because it came from outside the Play Store. That is the normal warning for any app that is not in the store. Tap Install anyway, or Settings and allow installs from this browser.
  2. Open AutoSong. It asks for two things: notification access, so it can see what is playing, and permission to run in the background, so it can save a song while you use another app. Both are one tap each.
  3. Play a song. It lands in Music/AutoSong in your music folder, with the title, the artist and the cover art.

Already installed an earlier build? Uninstall it first. This build is signed with AutoSong's own key, and Android will not let it sit on top of a build signed with the old test key.

Updates: the app checks for a newer build by itself and asks before it does anything. It finds them at the same address you downloaded this page from.

What it does with your music

Nothing leaves the phone. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. The downloader runs inside the app, the encoder runs inside the app, and the file is saved to your own music folder.

The only thing the app asks the internet for is the music you are playing, and only when you have asked it to save that.

If something goes wrong

Most problems are the two permissions, in the wrong order. Open the app and press Special permissions first, then Grant notification access.

If it still misbehaves, send a message and say what you pressed and what the app said. That is worth more than a screenshot of the error.

Support AutoSong

AutoSong is free, has no ads and asks for nothing. If it earns you an hour of saved time, a coffee is more than it costs to keep it working.

There is a Support AutoSong button in the app that takes you straight there.
